In an effort to enhance the quality of the urban fabric along Jiului Street, the proposal introduces a complex volumetric composition that establishes a strong urban presence at street level, while articulating varied spatial scales in the upper levels. The design seeks to move beyond the monotony of conventional enclosed-block residential developments.

Situated on a narrow, elongated site, the project acts as an important connector between future large-scale developments on currently vacant plots to the east and west, and the existing medium- and small-scale residential fabric located to the north and south of Jiului Street.

The area holds significant potential for transformation and future growth. In response, the proposal aims to foster a safe, active, and socially engaging urban environment. The resulting concept is a community-oriented mixed-use building with a distinct urban character, offering a balanced integration of living and working functions.

The proposal reconsiders the conventional typology of residential blocks. It is envisioned as a unified ensemble composed of three stacked volumetric elements. Each volume carries a specific function and is defined by its own façade language and material expression. Together, they operate in synergy, strengthening the unity of the composition. The gradual transition of volumes from north to south is an intentional design gesture. Subtle variations in light and contrast are used to give each stacked element a clear yet refined architectural identity.

Following local urban regulations, the proposal fully activates the potential of the site, resulting in a vertical composition. The residential tower reaches 60 meters in height, establishing a new landmark for the neighbourhood. The design concepts for each stacked volume are expressed through their own materiality, adapted to their specific context and grounded in a human-scale approach as a key reference. Commercial spaces and cafés are interspersed with public functions on the ground floor and first underground level, contributing to an active and vibrant street presence.

Four main vertical circulation cores provide access to each floor and to the semi-private roof terraces. A pedestrian route carved through the building massing establishes a direct connection between the core and the surrounding context, fostering interaction between different user groups. Large openings on all façades act as gateways to the inner courtyard, generating multiple pathways through and within the block. The courtyard is accessible to both residents and the public. The roof terraces are designed as a sequence of vertically stacked green gardens, providing spaces for relaxation and social interaction among residents. The favourable southern orientation supports the growth of lush vegetation and enables urban gardening, while also facilitating the absorption and drainage of excess rainwater. Together, these elements enhance the formation of a favourable local microclimate.
