Minimalism, Historic character, Layered design

The interior concept balances minimalism and professionalism with the building’s historic character. Rather than erasing the identity of the existing architecture, the design works with it: ornate ceiling roses, decorative cornices, arched openings, parquet flooring, glazed doors and original wall surfaces are preserved as part of the clinic’s narrative. These historic elements soften the clinical programme and give the space a domestic, almost apartment-like quality, allowing medical functions to unfold within an atmosphere of familiarity rather than institutional detachment.

A defining gesture is the retention and integration of the existing wallpaper, inherited from the previous space, refined through its pairing with light, understated tones to achieve chromatic balance. In the consultation rooms, the patterned blue and beige wallcovering becomes a visual anchor, introducing rhythm and tactility without overwhelming the patient. Its graphic repetition is moderated by pale timber, soft upholstery, white cabinetry and calm blue textile blinds, creating a measured dialogue between ornament and restraint.

Colour accents, drawn from the brand palette, are reinterpreted within the space to establish identity and visual coherence. Blue appears in shelving structures, roller blinds and selected details, while warm terracotta and orange tones animate the waiting area through modular seating and lighting. These accents are not decorative afterthoughts; they guide the eye, support wayfinding and translate the clinic’s visual identity into spatial experience.

The reception desk, signage and custom joinery continue this language with curved forms, subtle patterning and softened edges, avoiding the severity often associated with healthcare interiors.

Natural wood, introduced through furnishings, wall panels and detailing, brings warmth and composure, shaping a calm, restorative atmosphere essential to patient comfort. In the examination rooms, timber desks and branded vertical panels give the medical equipment a more integrated presence, reducing the sense of exposure often felt in clinical settings. The same approach continues at the entrance, where wood paneling and integrated lighting create a threshold that feels intimate and reassuring.

The lighting strategy is central to the project’s character. Sculptural pendant lights, wall-mounted pieces and softly glowing signage introduce a crafted, almost gallery-like dimension. Their organic and rounded geometries echo the broader design language of the clinic, counterbalancing the functional requirements of treatment rooms with a sense of care, attention and calm. The result is a layered interior in which historic ornament, contemporary furniture and brand-driven interventions coexist without conflict.

Departing from the conventional language of stark white, impersonal clinics, the design proposes instead a welcoming, familiar environment that fosters trust and a sense of safety upon entry. The clinic is composed as a sequence of gentle transitions: from the warm entrance, to the relaxed waiting lounge, to the consultation rooms where clinical precision is balanced by material softness. For an OB-GYN clinic, this is especially important. The interior acknowledges the sensitivity of the patient experience and replaces cold neutrality with warmth, dignity and quiet confidence.
